Love Me, I’m a Libertarian

Based on the structure of Phil Och's "Love Me, I'm a Liberal." Not true to the intent of the original. Just a song about being a libertarian (since most people don't understand it very well).

I cry when I see someone threatened.

Tears run down my spine

Like I cry for each war casualty.

Because I don’t think anyone has that right

But Lincoln got what was coming.

It’s true you can’t fight a crime with a crime

So love me, love me, love me, I’m a libertarian

And I go to all kinds of rallies:

Anti-tax, Anti-State, Anti-War

I love Paine and Rothbard and Tucker.

Hope they one day get the respect they deserve

And I want to talk about revolution.

But one that inspires the mind

So love me, love me, love me, I’m a libertarian

I cheered when Ron Paul had spoken.

But my faith in the system’s still scorned

I’m glad we have a voice we can speak through.

All the partisans were making me bored

I love people of all colors and cultures.

Not just in words, I’ll shop in their stores

So love me, love me, love me, I’m a libertarian

The people of every US city

should all hang their heads in shame

I don’t understand how they justify

all the crimes committed in their name

Cause the Drug War and the Fed inflating

just sound like erosions of Liberty

So love me, love me, love me, I’m a libertarian

I read Mises and Hayek

and Bastiat seems to know a thing or two too

That’s what separates me from the rest of the Left:

when I speak of economics, I speak the truth

But when we’re speaking of culture,

no individualist is more red, white, and blue

So love me, love me, love me, I’m a libertarian

I don’t vote based on a Party

cause they all want real parties banned

Prohibit every substance known to man.

They call cops and the party gets slammed

I won’t send a dime to a ‘Can or a ‘Crat

cause I’d prefer to stay out of prison

So love me, love me, love me, I’m a libertarian

Once I was young and stupid.

I thought to flout authority was a sin

Before I realized they were all monsters,

even I considered myself one of them

But I’ve grown older and wiser
