Text

For those of you out there who are fans of FM and FML, you’ve probably heard a bit about the Tactical Theorems & Frameworks (TT&F) document created by a very clever man from Australia (wwfan) who, with help from others in the community (noticeably Millie), has created the bible amongst hard core tactical minds.

Now, I can honestly confess that I’d heard about it but never read it and if I’m really honest I’d downloaded it but got but got put off by its size (50 pages at the last count). I wonder how many others out there were like me

So, you can imagine what I was thinking when Oliver Collyer announced to the FML team that he was talking to wwfan and Millie about using it for FML.

I’ve never been one for the tactic skills in FML and I much prefer to waste away the hours getting level 5 in finance. In fact when it comes to tactics I’m pretty happy with having just level 1 or 2 and hoping that whoever created the original files knew what they were doing. In times of desperation I might play around with my formation sending by central defender up top to grab me a last minute equaliser but that was the size of it.

All that said, I’m a changed man at the moment and it’s all thanks to the way in which it’s been implemented into FML. Forget PDF, FML has a six step wizard to tactical superiority. Even Oliver Collyer, the brains behind FML is excited at the prospect (and he coded it!)

“Fancy yourself as Arsene Wenger, but can’t work out how to explain what you mean to your players? Do they stare at you blankly when you tell them to have mentality 8 and creative freedom 14? Use FML’s new Tactics Creator and be taken step by step through to creating a working tactic that will have your players raving about your tactical mastery in the newspapers every Sunday morning”

In its simplest form it takes the hassle out of having to micromanage an array of sliders and applies some common sense into proceedings.

Shout shout let yourself out

That’s not all we’ve done! When it comes to match day, we’ve added a brand new Shout Instructions button which magically transforms you into Martin O’Neil, jumping up and down on the touchline, fiddling with your glasses and getting those all important instructions across to your lumbering Sunday league team?

You can use this menu to change your match strategy, make quick substitutions or target that dangerous opposition player who is cutting your tactics to shreds.

In fact, whilst writing this blog I gave my skipper the thumbs up that I was making a tactical change and switched my formation around and it had an almost immediate effect as we clawed a goal back. Didn’t actually enable me to win the match but I felt good for a brief moment in time.

I don’t want a wizard

Don’t worry; we were sure that many of you liked things just how they were and so we’ve retained all the previous functionality in the Advanced Instructions section.
